Post A vaguely spoken...
Hello. :) I've shipped Harry/Luna since OotP (the mistletoe scene to be exact) and it absolutely tickles me to be joining now when the books are done and over with. I look forward to good movie discussions.

It's funny, but DH actually made me a bigger HL shipper than before. I really wanted to see, feel, and buy JKR's OTP. I wanted to give up on HL, I'm serious I did, but Harry/Ginny just didn't work out for me. I think, amongst other things, that JKR did a disservice to Ginny and her purported personality. (H/G is the first author's OTP that I didn't/don't understand. It crushed me... partly.)

In the meantime, HL kept having these great moments that said so much about their awesome connection (Polyjuice, distraction... the OotP movie?). So sail on! And sail on proudly. :)

Luna PWNS in every way possible.

Welcome! :) Hope you enjoy posting here.

H/G is the first author's OTP that I didn't/don't understand.

I know what you mean - I'm the same way. Pretty much every other series I watch/read, I can get on board with the canon OTPs (even if I don't always actively ship it). HP is the first series where I've actively disliked the final major OTP. I really wanted to like whatever relationship ended up being Harry's final OTP.

Welcome!

Alas, I wish I could say the same, but H/G isn't the first (author/creator/canon) OTP I couldn't get behind. I suppose my first one was Paris/Torres from Star Trek Voyager.

There are others that I didn't really care for, but I think Paris/Torres, Harry/Ginny, and Ron/Hermione* are the only ones that pretty much fail on every level for me. Other show/book OTPs I might not care for, but don't generally hate/loathe/notunderstand.

* While I didn't love canon Ron/Hermione, I'm still okay with fanon Ron/Hermione, which is kinda strange, but there you go!

Just to clarify myself - when I say OTP, I don't mean every ship in every series, but the main "flagship" of a series, such as John/Aeryn for Farscape and Buffy/Angel (or Buffy/Spike) for BtVS.

That said, though, most canon ships out there - even if I don't ship them, I can understand/accept them. For instance: Ron/Hermione, pretty much every pairing on Firefly, Xander/Anya on BtVS, and Logan/Veronica on Veronica Mars. I see where those ships come from and don't hate them, but you won't see me joining shipper chats for them anytime soon.

And to correct myself: there was one series' "OTP" I actively despised before HP: Angel/Cordelia. But heck, even A/C had a friendship to build from and you could easily tell how much they genuinely cared for one another, which is more than I can say for H/G. That, and OTPs in Joss Whedon shows are just as subject to being ripped apart as any other ship he writes anyway. ;)

Hey, good to see you!

As for the discussion at hand, I always saw R/Hr as JKR's OTP, really. I mean, she spent way more time building it up and making it happen, imo, ya know? *shrug*

As for myself, I think I'm almost more likely to hate a 'main' ship - I'm not sure why. I think if I don't like it, even a little, that dislike is magnified by the sheer number of people who ADORE the ship (being that it's the "main" one) and having to put up with more of it in canon than any other ship, ya know?

I'm not really a massive shipper (This is the first time I've actually reached out to a fandom about it) but what Ginny's character became (and I feel that this really is the root of the problem with H/G) just wounded my little feminist soul.

I supported R/Hr through the series 'cuz I saw it, but... nothing really to get crazy about over there.
