Luna was made of awesome in DH!
I will never understand why Jo made Luna so incredible in the book and then couldn't even be bothered to mention her in the crapilogue. She recognized Harry in spite of polyjuice! She kept Ollivander sane! She gave that awesome speech over Dobby's grave! She helped Harry cast a patronus! She stunned Alecto...and then she goes AWOL at the end? What a piece of crap!

I was originally bummed she was left out of the epilogue too - then looked back and decided that with as disappointing as I found the epilogue, I'm glad Luna was untouched by it. Her future's a lovely blank slate to play with, unlike so many other characters.

Luna was wonderful in the last book with how she could help anyone in danger and bravely brought in the war. I didn't mind that she wasn't in the epilogue. The epilogue was so short that we didn't know what happened to a multitude of other amazing characters. But it doesn't matter, because as Lady Aeryn said, it gives us more freedom to fill in the blanks.

At first I was quite disapointed too, because I wanted more Luna. But, really its for the best that Luna wasn't in the epilouge, it means we can have far more freedom with her future.

I think that Jo did away with the DoM/Veil storyline once she got to DH, so Luna's original role (I'm convinced she was going to be a key part of that story) was altered into a continuation of her friendship with Harry (and, as we saw in her bedroom, with the other members of the Sextet), and as we saw, she was AGAIN one of the true highlights of the book. The scene of her comforting Harry and heartening him when she casts her hare patronus will be one of the terrific scenes in the DH!Movie, methinks

I hope her scenes make it into the movie. I doubt if they can pass any of them to other characters without the scenes making absolutely no sense, but I fear some of them being deleted.

Well, I'm thinking that either the Escape from Privet Drive or The Wedding will be axed -- unless, of course, WB decides to finally give the movies their due and produce a 3-hour epic a la LotR, but I'm rather hopeful that Luna's scenes will remain intact. So much was cut from OotP, yet her scenes in that movie carried over almost in their entirely (heck, they even ADDED scenes for her), so I have no doubt that WB know a good thing when they see it -- and will milk it for all she worth

I'm pretty sure the wedding will be cut because we haven't yet met Bill, have we? The Bill/Fleur subplot seems to have been dropped completely.
Luna was just cute in Deathly Hallows. I was glad she had her moments and a good send off as a strong ally.

I hope the wedding DOES get dropped, but I think Fleur will be back in some way.

True, unless, of course, the WB folks decide to introduce him in the HBP movie...

The biggest reason plotwise I could see for keeping the wedding is that it's the first place we first see Xeno and the Deathly Hallows symbol. I suppose those could be introduced another way, though. Really, I wouldn't mind if the wedding was left in for no other reason than getting to see see Evanna rockin' that yellow gown and sunflower.
And if Dan wanted to give us a little cookie in the form of a reaction shot, then hey.

Does it strike anyone else how much of a classic Love Interest role Luna fulfilled in TDH (and I mean that in a good way)? She recognizes Harry when he's Polyjuiced, and I can't help but think of those stories where the hero has been transformed into some monster and it's the beloved that recognizes him. She gets captured by Death Eaters and (sort of) rescued by Harry. When Harry is in despair to the point that he can't cast the Patronus Charm, Luna encourages him. When he needs time alone after the final battle, she instinctively knows it and arranges for him to get it. These are all things I'd expect of the hero's true love. Jo can talk all she likes about Ginny being Harry's ideal girl and give them three kids in the Epilogue, but what's actually on the page before that reads like "101 Reasons Harry and Luna Belong Together." All they don't do is kiss
All this makes me rather fearful of Luna's role in the upcoming films. I agree that Evanna is perfect as Luna. She has the most screen presence out of any of the kids and stunning to boot--if she wants to pursue acting full time, she could have quite the career ahead of her. She and Dan have amazing chemistry. All of which means is that if they film her scenes as written, there's no way the audience isn't going to wonder why Harry ends up Ginny instead of Luna. They'll probably wonder anyway given the OotP film. Since I can't see Rowling allowing the filmmakers to change or omit the love interest (Epilogue yes, H/G altogether, no), they'll have to give some of those scenes to Ginny for the romance to be halfway plausible.

That's exactly what I thought aftr finishing DH.
Some of her scenes are typical of the love interest (add the Slug Party date to the mix!), and it would be just too easy for WB to give them to Ginny to make her look like the LI.
Yes, I know that Evanna is an amazing actress and they don't want to waste her talents etc etc, but I can't help being pessimistic...

See, I look at the same information and come away entirely more optimistic
When Yates & Co were filming OotP, they were already aware of the developments in HBP, yet, inexplicably, they chose to continue to put Luna in the limelight, and to consciously underline her developing bond with Harry. If they were to film H/G as it was written in HBP, it would look like it was either a)lust, or b)Harry looking at Ginny as a consolation prize. Neither option would look any more appealing on film than it did in the book. The tiny snippets of "foreshadowing" (if you can call it that) they had in the film was entirely one-sided: Ginny pining after Harry, with nothing reciprocated from him.
But then, WB have an easy way out of their dilemma, don't they? Assuming they'd want to avoid the same criticisms the last two books have evoked, there's a very easy fix waiting in the wings -- and they themselves have already laid a fine foundation for its continuance with OotP

The easy way out as I see it is to just NOT film the epilogue, but you all know how I feel about that.
