... and talked about doing a thread on Dumbledore, and his cunning plans exploding. Since things have been so quiet here, lately, I figured we may as well start that topic.

Prior to Deathly Hallows, I'd been annoyed at the large amounts of Manipuative!Dumbledore fic, portraying him as this manipulative mastermind that was ruthlessly using Harry and everybody else. As the final book demonstrated, it just turned out these writers were just writing him completely in character. So, what are your favorite fics where the jerk's plans are undone by Harry or others? I'll start with one from the other thread...

A WIP, but it's 33 chapters so far are still worth reading. The author intended it to be just 10 or so, but... Well, that's how these things go. This is a BtVS crossover, with appearances from several characters from many Fandoms. Like the first story, it involves Dumbledore's plans being thwarted by Harry being adopted by others, in this case Buffy Summers and company. Dumbledore takes action and... Well, these aren't people you want to do this sort of thing to.

So, what are some you'd recommend?

Continuing making things miserable for Albus Dumbledore, here's one that's not quite as hard on him as the other two, but he's still being a manipulative jerk having things go not as he planned. Like the first two, this is a series that has Harry being adopted by someone else, in this case a certain blonde from Gotham City. As the series is going to be H/L once they get to that point, Harry still has a thing for girls that remind him of Mommy.

I hadn't recced this before because, as fun as it is, one of the major characters is just being too mellow to be in character, but... The most recent chapter posted, Chapter 14 of the second story, just had a very nice plot twist regarding "Prank" (one of those "obvious in retrospect" type of twists) that makes me really want to see how this plays out.

And why not a little H/L/Hr to make Dumbledore's cunning plans explode? Here's Darkened Paths by Paladeus, in which Luna sees a nighmarish possible future in which Harry and Hermione are married to Weasleys. So, she sets out to break Harry from Dumbledore's manipulations, and make him a better wizard in charge of his life and destiny in the process. Warning: occasional Lemony Goodness.
