Post What ever happened to Cassie?
I noticed people are still starting threads on FAP every once in awhile asking why they can't find her fanfics. I was wondering what happened with her book and the whole plaigarism thing. I haven't heard anything about her in ages.

The only one I personally miss is "Something to Get Upset About". I wish I had stashed that one someplace.

I'm surprised that people are still seeking her fics and praising them although there is overwhelming evidence that she plagiarized. And her stories are not even all that great.

Her novel is horrible, I've heard. I'm so happy to hear that. My novel series will kick her ass. Heck, I can comfortable claim that everyone's fanfics here are better than Cassie's. At least we write original stuff!

Heck, if JKR is no longer relevant, I can't see how Cassie would be...

I don't know why people still ask about her, but they do. There was a thread asking about her fics, and every time someone starts a new one, the mods merge it in and tell them to look before they start a new thread. They must either be sick of it, or embarrassed that she's still a topic of conversation.

Like I said, that oneshot fic was not too bad. I didn't read the famous (infamous?) trilogy.

I guess infamy will do that.

Well, to be fair, it wasn't just the controversy that made Cassie a big deal in HP Fandom. She was a pretty major figure in how the Fandom developed, especially the fanfic. For a time, she was the most influential writer in HP fic. I remember the Draco Trilogy being so influential that fic writers would be accused of writing Draco "out of character" if they wrote him the way JKR wrote him instead of the way Cassie wrote him. What we think of as Fanon!Draco was pretty much Cassie's.

So, yeah, it doesn't surprise me that people are still curious. They're likely unaware of just how much she lifted. It always bugged me, and I'm sure any other fic writer who noticed, that such full scale lifting got so much praise. I even commented at FAP once that I could write as "brilliantly" if I lifted all my dialog from other sources like that. :)

Which is one of the reasons why I hated her so much. Just because she was one of the first active members of fandom, she got to screw up the characters to the point that fanbrats have trouble recognizing the difference between canon Draco and the fanon horror that she created. Leather pants? Smooth talker? Poor little misunderstood boy? Ha! Give me a break!

But it annoys me how big the Draco idiot fan squad is. It' so annoying. Since when was he friends with Harry?

After learning about Cassie, a real-life friend of mine told me that the HP fandom was pathetic to have it's most recognized fic writer be a plagiarist. This friend loved the HP books but hated the fandom. Sadly, I must agree with her on this. How could we let someone like Cassie represent so much of this fandom? :\

I love the post-OotP, HBP, and TDH fandom. The new fans are bringing something refreshing, thank God.

Well, that was before a lot of us came along, of course. I was part of the post-OotP wave, which brought in a lot of my fellow Buffy fans. We, naturally, immediately recognized where Fanon!Draco got his wit, and the leather pants. Leather pants were one of the running jokes of that series. :)

Presumably, when she started writing her fic, there weren't many Buffy fans around. Or Red Dwarf, Blackadder, and Hitchhiker's Guide fans (Most of the Buffy crowd was into those, too).

Well... This will make us appreciate Stephanie Meyer, then. :)

Favorite comment in that thread...

"I could not get through that shit. And I somehow managed to actually read fucking Twilight, so I think that's saying something."
